Where It Started

The Humphrey Amps journey began in 2009 when Gerry Humphrey — an electrical engineer and lifelong guitarist — set out to create amplifiers that matched the beauty and craftsmanship of custom guitars. Working from the family garage, Gerry combined his love for engineering and woodworking to build prototypes that would set the standard for heirloom-quality acoustic amplification.

The goal from day one was clear: produce the clearest, most natural amplified acoustic sound possible. No digital processing, no modeling — just pure tube tone through a hand-wired signal path and hi-fi speakers, housed in a cabinet built like fine furniture.

A Family Affair

Humphrey Amps has always been a family effort. Gerry's wife, Shirley, was the friendly face of the company for many years — working the booth at guitar shows and festivals, connecting with players, and helping build the reputation that Humphrey Amps carries today. Her warmth and personality were instrumental in spreading the word about what we do.

In recent years, their son Jamie has taken on a significant role in the company, joining full-time to help with production and the day-to-day running of the business. Jamie's contributions have been key in expanding the product lineup and ensuring that every amp that leaves the workshop meets the standard that customers have come to expect.
